Our replies to questions asked at the parents evenings...

Will there be opportunities to participate in / with my child’s learning and schooling?

We place great value on the contributions parents and carers make to their child’s learning. Your child will bring home many books and activities for you to do together.
We welcome parents into school to help in anyway, whether it is sharing books with children, helping with cooking, art, working in the library or sharing your own skills with children.
All parent volunteers must undertake our Child Protection Training and CRB Checks (Criminal Record Bureau) before you are able to come into school to help.
Look out for details of next Child Protection Training Evening coming soon.

There will of course be Class Assemblies, Harvest & Christmas Performances, Join us for lunch days, open afternoons & evenings, sports days and many more activities throughout the year which we would love you to be a part of.

My child still needs help with many things including, cutting food, getting dressed and some social skills. What will happen?

Your child will be given all the support they need by our wonderful and caring staff. Tiger Class has 2 Teaching Assistants to ensure that we can meet the needs of all children.
Our school is built upon the principles of Maslow’s Hierarchy of needs, ensuring that a child’s basic physical and emotional needs are met, learning would be very difficult if these needs are not met.

Personal, Social and Emotional development underpins all of the activities in the Foundation Stage. We teach children Personal, Social and Emotional Skills in a fun and purposeful way, using Puppets, Circle Time, Photographs Habits of Mind and many other resources to support. Children are guided in practising, using and applying these skills through activities and experiences within their own classroom and the wider life of the school.

My child is very young. Will they understand the learning or get left behind?

When your child begins school Foundation Staff will observe and play alongside your child making assessments of ‘Where they are at now’ with their learning. Foundation Stage staff will carefully plan the next steps for your child’s development. All of the activities in the classroom will be hands on, exciting and accessible to all children. Staff will use well timed interventions i.e questions, suggestions, introduction of resources to further develop individuals learning.
How will I find out the progress my child is making?

Throughout the year, Foundation Stage Staff build up Records of Achievements and record progress and achievements using the Foundation Stage Profile. There will be lots of opportunities through open afternoons and evenings to view these items. Hopefully, Record of Achievements will be able to be sent home for you to view during the year.

We have termly parent consultation evenings where you will be able to discuss where your child is at now and their targets for the next steps of their learning.

Please, please feel free to chat to your child’s class teacher if you have any questions. Please do not wait until Parent Consultation evenings.

What happens at lunchtimes?

Lunchtimes are happy, sociable and enjoyable times.

All children eat together in the dining hall in one sitting. Tigers all sit together with some Jaguar Class helpers. Hot Lunches and Sandwiches sit together so your child will be able to sit with their friend even if they are having different lunches.

Play Supervisors ensure that your child’s food is cut up, or that they are able to cut it up. All children are encouraged to drink water with their lunch, cups and jugs of water are provided and poured by helpers or adults.

Our brilliant school cook makes delicious, healthy homemade lunches. Please look out for the menu.
When children have finished their lunch or had a good try at eating a selection of foods – not just desert, they are helped to scrap their plate and then go out to play indoors or outdoors weather permitting.

Parents & Grandparents are welcome to join us for lunch each term, look out for further details.

What type and how many after school clubs do you have?

We have a range of after school clubs that vary from term to term.
Clubs include Disco Dancing, Gardening, Go-Ride (Cycling), Rounders, Saturday Morning Football Club and an Art Club to name a few. Some clubs operate at lunchtime and some after school. Different clubs are available to different year groups and some clubs run by outside providers require fees to be paid.

If you have any more questions please use our contacts page to mail them through... Thanks
